Feeling Some Regrets

So I started my new job about a month ago. You'd think I'd still be excited about it?

Wrong.

The only great thing about my new job is the shorter commute.

After starting there, I found out some things that have soured me on the whole experience.

- no casual Fridays (unless there's some charity they want to coerce you into donating to)
- duties aren't what I thought (I like analyzing, but now I'm just building reports)
- misc.

The biggest thing, however, is PTO. The offer states that I get 4 weeks PTO. What they don't tell you is that company holidays are included in that PTO. I've never heard of it before, and no one I've talked to has either. Needless to say, it's a gyp.

This is a good reason as to why you never burn any bridges and keep your options open. I had been interviewing with my #1 choice of a company as well. When this offer came along, I had to bow out, but did ask them to keep me in mind. When I found out that I hated this job, I was able to get back into contention with my #1 choice, and recently had an interview with them. They should be making a decision soon. I hope I get it.

In other news, I finally got my furniture. The bedroom looks great with it. Now, time to get a living room set.

In other news, LSU is 3-0 so far, and the Saints are 2-0. My teams are undefeated, so I figure things can only go up from here.

Fired, Then Hired

A week ago, I was fired from my job at HealthSpring. I have no ill will towards the company or the people who work there, except my now ex-boss. But that's a story that will be told later. Needless to say, it's been brewing for the past few months.

However, I had already been planning to leave. I was let go on Friday afternoon, but received a job offer on Monday morning. To summarize, I'll be compensated better and have a much closer commute. I start on the 24th, so I'm just taking a little time to rest and relax.

At least I was prepared for potential unemployment. I had a fully-funded emergency fund. 6 months if I spent like a member of Congress, and probably 9 months to a year if I cut back on unnecessary expenses.

Before my firing, I was able to finish buying my bedroom furniture. As mentioned before, I bought a bedroom set and still haven't received it. I bought a mattress set last week at SleepWell Mattress Outlet on Nolensville, and got a great mattress for a great price. I also bought the sheets. Right now, I have a mattress sitting on the floor, but it's a damn comfortable one.

Again, there's a lot more going on than I was able to divulge, but I'm saving that for later.

I Bought A Bedroom Set... But Not From The Special Man

I finally got around to buying some furniture for my new house. Ashley had a bedroom set I liked (Monolith), so I went to their Cool Springs store on Saturday to buy it. It was actually way cheaper than I thought, and had budgeted for. It'll be delivered in 2-4 weeks. Now I just need to pick up a mattress and some sheets to complete the bedroom. And a flat-screen.

Actually, the flat-screen can wait.

The only disappointing thing was that I have awesome credit and do not live in New Orleans anymore. That meant I did not get to go to Frankie & Johnny's and have the ghost of the Special Man tell me that I could have it with no problem.

Also, I got a Nokia E71 for my birthday. I'm still playing with it, but it's an awesome phone. I'm just waiting for the MicroSD card I bought to get here so I can load some tunes onto it.

The awesome (and maybe scary) part of the phone is that the GPS is very accurate. I may even set up a feature on the site so that you can stalk me. Or at the very least, know where I am.

On a side note, what's the deal with drivers in Nashville? The roads get a little wet, and everybody is all OMG, I GOTTA SLOW DOWN TO 5 MPH THROUGH DOWNTOWN OR I'LL CRASH!!!11

Damn people, a little rain won't kill you. Hell, on the way back from vacation, I got trapped in a nasty thunderstorm around Spring Hill. While everyone else pulled over, I was still able to trek along at about 55 and did not die. Even though I didn't even need headlights because the lightning was everywhere, and the rain was blowing sideways.

I know that a lot hasn't written here recently, but sometimes, there are things you just can't talk about right now.

If You're At Work, You Can't Read This

Imagine how surprised I was when I tried to pull up thebigtymer.com at work, only to see it's now blocked by the WebSense filters. Well, at least my site is popular enough to be filtered.

I haven't been inspired to write that much in about a month, but today was just awful.

It was all punctuated by when I was driving down 440, when a garbage bag fell out of the garbage truck, and drifted all the way to my windshield. Now, I didn't wreck or have any damage to my windshield, but it was still a stank-ass mess.

At least my birthday is in less than a couple of weeks, so things can only get better.

This past weekend, I was over in Knoxville visiting family. I stayed at this hotel that was cheap... that was about all it had going for it. The remote control had the battery held in by tape, the shower switched between hot & cold water, and there were cigarette burns on the bed. Did I mention this was a non-smoking room?

I'm really looking forward to taking some time off around my birthday. God, I need it.

Long Time, No Blog

It's been almost a month since I wrote something here. I guess there just hasn't been a lot of news lately. I'm not one of those people who'll write a bunch of crap just to write something. Plus, nobody really reads this, so why does it matter?

Since last time, I did get the dish installed. I was impressed. The installer was scheduled to be here between 8 and 12, but they were here right at 8 AM. I was still sleeping, because I wasn't expecting the installer to show up then. So far, Dish has been better than Comcast by far.

My birthday's coming up in a little over a month, and I'm thinking of getting a smartphone. Something to work with AT&T, but I don't want to get it direct from AT&T... they'll lock it to their network, plus saddle you with a lot of crap, same like any other cell provider. I would have gone with the Nokia E71x from them if they hadn't crippled it, so I may get an unlocked E71.

Again, as I said, not a lot of news. But at least you know I'm not dead.
