I'LL BE UNWIRED REAL SOON
Today is pretty much the last day that my jaw will be wired shut. Tomorrow morning, I go to the oral surgeon's office to get unwired and have this splint taken it.
I'll be able to talk again, so I can make some phone calls. I'll also be able to brush my teeth nicely. Right now, the backs of my teeth feel like skanky slippers. Ew, plaque! However, I may not be off this liquid diet. I'm kinda hoping for soft foods. If oatmeal is okay, I'm going to Sam's Club to buy it in bulk.
After this, it'll be about 4-6 weeks until steak. I can't wait to eat steak again. Hopefully, I'll be able to eat Popeye's chicken sooner than that, since it's nowhere near as tough as steak. Steak is awesome, but Popeye's chicken is the shiznit.
Other than that, there's not much going on. I've been sending out resumes, as I need work. New Orleans and Atlanta are my two major candidates right now, but Nashville just entered the mix. Not only is Nashville a good city, but they also have BOTH White Castles and Krystals in Nashville. I haven't had a fresh White Castle in over 5 years, and I want some bad. Plus, I think they count in a soft-chew diet, right?
I put up a new BiTchin'! article on my years at LSU. It's not a good read, but you should read it anyway. I'm still waiting on the graduation photos, as Dad hasn't developed the film yet.
Right now, I have 19 hours until my jaw is unwired and I can talk again. I'm going to continue to count down the hours. Bye.
ONE WEEK AFTER MY JAW SURGERY... I AIN'T DEAD
Well, it's been a week since I had my jaw surgery. Obviously, since I'm writing this, I must be healthy. However, when it comes to food, I want to severely hurt myself.
Last Wednesday, I woke up, took a shower, and got to the hospital at 6 AM. They took me to a room, had me put on the gown, and get in bed. After the IV was set up and such, I was taken to the OR around 7:30. That's the last I remember.
I woke up in the recovery room sometime around noon. My jaw was wired shut, and I had a "jaw bra" set around my face with ice packs. That wasn't hurting me, though. Whoever decided to put the catheter in me will pay dearly (if I ever find out who that was).
I was taken to a room, where I spent the night. I finally got the catheter out (which hurt like hell), and it burned the first couple of times I took a piss. I went home the next day.
A week after surgery, I feel fine. I had a good bit of swelling the first couple of days, but that's gone down a lot. I can resume my normal schedule of things. Well, almost.
My jaw is still wired shut, and I have a splint between my teeth. Those won't be taken out until June 24. That sucks, because I can't talk or eat properly. However, it's all about healing, ain't it?
I've been able to learn how to talk in a way that people can somewhat understand me, but I'm staying away from phones. Also, I'm living off of smoothies and Ensure. Damn, I hope I can have scrambled eggs soon! However, I have a huge-ass craving for Popeye's chicken.
I'll write more in a week, but I need to cry over being unable to eat Popeye's. Hopefully, I'll be able to soon.
GOING UNDER THE KNIFE TOMORROW
At this time tomorrow, my jaw surgery will be just about finished. After that, I'll be staying there overnight to make sure I have no medical issues. Wish me luck on this one.
I went to the hospital yesterday to have all these tests done. They took some blood, made me pee into a cup, took some X-rays, and gave me an EKG. I guess I came out fine.
Tomorrow, I have to go to the hospital at 6 AM. My surgery should start around 7:30, and it should last about 5 hours. During this time, they'll be pushing my lower jaw back about 6-7mm, and they'll remove a polyp from my sinus. That means I should be finished with surgery about 12:30.
I'll be moved to a recovery area for a couple of hours, and then I should be moved to a room where I'll stay the night. I don't completely know how they'll hold my jaw together, but I might not be able to talk.
I'll be seeing a dietician as well; I'll be on a strictly liquid diet for 6-8 weeks. I'm hoping to use this to drop down to 170-175 pounds. Right now, I'm about 220. That damn "Freshman 15" affected me every year, it seemed.
I've been looking forward to this surgery for a long time, and I'm glad it's finally time to do this. Of course, it has held up my job search a bit, but I hope to find something soon.
I think I'll go catch a nap, and then just stay awake until it's time to go to the hospital. Wish me luck!
