MY FIRST WEEK AS A COLLEGE GRADUATE

Finally, I've been able to have some rest and relaxation! It's been great not having to worry about scheduling, fees, and textbooks. However, that doesn't mean everything's been stress-free.

The big thing on my mind is trying to find a job. I've been sending out resumes, and I'm going to send out more resumes. I'm hoping something will come up, but it's probably not going to happen immediately.

On Thursday, I had a meeting in Kenner with a company called TEKSystems. They're an IT-staffing company that helps other companies recruit for potential positions. The recruiter I met with was a very nice person, and she liked TheBigTymer.Com, which is a plus. I mention that because the position we were talking about was a Web Designer/Developer position with a company in Covington. However, she gave me some resume tips, which included not using this site as part of my portfolio (supposedly, some people could be offended by the content). That's fine, I have other sites and great references.

The meeting was a little shorter than I planned, so I took the scenic route home. That's right, Highway 90 all the way back from New Orleans to Slidell. I wanted to see the Buddhist temples in eastern New Orleans (where there's a huge Vietnamese population) and the fishing camps the rest of the way to Slidell. I hadn't crossed the Rigolets bridge in years, but DAMN, that bridge is narrow. It's not very comforting, especially when an 18-wheeler passes you going the other way. I don't think I'll take that route again.

My graduation gifts? They currently total about $750. Mom and Pop haven't given anything yet, but they've made a huge promise. Therefore, graduating college is more profitable than graduating high school.

My plans right now: send out more resumes before I have jaw surgery on June 8. I have to work on that. Next time, I'll have graduation pictures up, as well as a story about my college life.

"THE BIGTYMER" ARTHUR RYMER IS NOW AN LSU GRADUATE

That's right, folks, I finally received my diploma yesterday. It was a long day, and it was kinda hot, but I now have my Bachelor's in Information Systems and Decision Sciences. I'll have some pictures up soon. I'll also write an article about my college experiences.

However, it was a great day, except for one thing. E.J. Ourso, the guy who the business college is named for, was unable to attend the ceremony. However, he wanted each of us to have a cheap pen and cheap bookmark as a grad gift. Wow, what a gift! </sarcasm>

Luckily, it'll be easier for me to keep up with most people I know from LSU, thanks to Facebook. And again, here's my profile. If I knew you, and you're not on there, sign up. And if you are, add me as a friend if you haven't done so.

(Oh yeah, be sure to join the group "Tshaw = Devil". You know what I mean if you had to suffer through ISDS 4125. Weren't you "rocket excited"? Ha ha!)

Graduation gifts: so far, not too much yet. I've gotten about $20-25 from 5 different people. Mom and dad haven't given anything yet, and neither has grandma. They're the big spenders of the group.

Now that I've graduated, I have the following plans. I must submit resumes, and since I'm an IT guy, I can work anywhere. I get my jaw surgery done on June 8. Once I recover from that, I'll hopefully be doing some job interviews. Hopefully, I can work some odd jobs to make a little money.

Anyways, feel free to leave your congratulations if you want in the comments. I appreciate hearing from y'all.

MY SENIORITIS IS CURED

I know it's taken a little longer for me to write this than planned, but it's all good.

I've finished college. That's right, I've finished all my papers, projects, and finals, save for a couple of minor things. However, they're pretty much trivial and can be easily taken care of.

I've already received a couple of grades: I got a P(ass) for my internship, and a B in Management. All that's left are my E-Commerce and Information Systems grades, but I should be receiving no lower than a B in those. In fact, it's possible, but not necessarily probable, that I could receive an A in them. However, B's still equal degrees, bitch!

Next on my schedule is commencement on May 20th. The main ceremony is early in the morning, and the degree ceremony is late in the afternoon. I'll probably use that dead time to go buy a diploma frame with my new alumni discount at the gift shop.

So, after I graduate, I should start working, right? Not so fast. I'll be having surgery to get my under-cross-crap-bite fixed either the first or second week of June. Recovery takes about 6-8 weeks, and I'll be living it up at Smoothie King, I guess. Speaking of which, I'll be moving in with mom and pop until I recover and can get a job. I won't be eating steak on my birthday either (unless it's pureed - ick!)

Anyway, because of this, I haven't started my job search yet. I'm not sure where I want to work. Do I want to stay in New Orleans? Probably not. I'd like to live and work in Atlanta. I think that's an awesome city. In fact, why don't you help me decide?

/points to poll on right

Well, I should start writing my resume, so I'll keep this short. Later (and congrats to me!)
