My New Desktop... Ain't Ready Yet
Well, I got all the parts for my new desktop, and I put them all together. Here's what went into the case:
Shuttle SD11G5 Barebones Setup
Pentium M 770 (2.13 GHz)
2 GB Kingston RAM
eVGA GeForce 6600 256 MB Video Card
160GB Hard Drive
16X DVD+RW Drive
Of course, I also got a keyboard, mouse, speakers, and flat-panel monitor. Of course, that would be obvious. Well, I got everything put together and booted up. It didn't even POST to the BIOS. Turns out the processor is defective. I'll have to return it.
This, of course, brings up an ironic twist. I have to return it to Monarch's warehouse/retail store in suburban Atlanta. This is ironic because I just got a job interview in downtown Atlanta on Monday. Therefore, I should have the new processor in a couple of days.
I'll be leaving for Atlanta on Sunday. Tomorrow, I'm going to get my oil changed, and then go to Bourbon Street. I'll come back after my interview and processor exchange, but I'll be back for Mardi Gras.
Speaking of jobs, I have that interview on Monday, but nothing else. I've started working on applying to grad school for the fall. I didn't want to go to grad school so soon, but it seems like I don't have a choice. I can't even get a freakin' help desk job with a Bachelor's. I'm going to apply to a couple of colleges in the Atlanta area, because the opportunities are better there.
Oh well, have a happy Mardi Gras.

It's Rude Not To Return Calls Or E-Mails!
The reason I waited more than a couple of weeks to update was to see if I got calls on any of those job opportunities. Well, I didn't. So I followed up and left messages with all of them. Wouldn't you know it, none of them returned my calls!
I also recently got an e-mail from someone, so I replied with some questions. Wouldn't you know it, they haven't bothered to respond in a week. I was always taught that it's rude not to return calls or e-mails, so I make sure to. I wish that others had the same courtesy.
At least some do. I went over to Madisonville for an interview last Tuesday. I got a response, although it was a "negatory". I'd rather have a no than no reply at all. I also had an interview down in Harahan today, and the guy seems to be one who would give you a response. The only bad thing was that is was a 10-minute interview. It could be a good thing if I get invited back for a second interview.
I also got denied for that Discover restaurant card I mentioned last time. It seems like they don't want my business.
I do hope I get a job soon, as I need the cash. My almost-5-year-old Dell's RAM is going bad. It has trouble booting into Windows now. Therefore, it's time for a new computer. I'm thinking of building my own this time, and I plan to use the Shuttle SD11G5 barebones system to work with. Since it uses a Pentium M, it's small, silent, and sexy as hell. I already got what I want priced out, and it sounds good.
We'll see what happens. I guess I should update more often, and not wait for any returned calls about potential employment. I decided to make a poll about it, so check that one out.
