Looking For Work Is A Job In Itself!

I find that I've been keeping real busy this past week. This week, I had 3 job interviews... and they were in 3 different cities! I did a good bit of traveling this week.

On Monday, I was in Atlanta for an interview. The company I interviewed with handles HR functions that Fortune 500 companies pay them to take care of. I'd be doing a mix of help desk and QA work. Of course, since it's a 7-hour trip each way, I stayed at a motel the night before. It was clean, and I got a free box of condoms that I'll never use.

(Of course, I had to pick up some soft drinks. I got 2 12-packs of Cheerwine, 2 of Pibb Xtra, and one each of Dr. Wham and Grapico. Tasty.)

On Wednesday, I was in Baton Rouge interviewing with Law Enforcement Online. I'd be handling the maintenance of content on their website. It's interesting, since LSU pays you, but you answer to the FBI. I think I have a shot.

Earlier today, I was interviewing with an IT consulting firm in New Orleans. This particular gig is that we'd be handling the tech support for a bank. Even better, it's the bank I bank at. I think I even have a shot at this one.

Since I felt good about my chances, I applied for a credit card. I heard Discover was closing their restaurant CashBack Bonus card to new customers, so I applied before the deadline. With my luck, I'll probably be denied by them. Of course, I was denied by chase the first time, and now I have my highest limit card with them.

Of course, I also just received the new AMEX version of my Citi Dividend. Now, I'm looking for a Mastercard that has good cash back at restaurants. I'm thinking of the Citi Professional Mastercard. What do you think?

Speaking of which, now you can freely post comments without me getting bot-spammed. It actually works!

Now, I just have to add it to my moblog. Ciao.

How I Took A Trip To DC For Only $50!

Last week, I went to our nation's capital to interview with the company I mentioned in my last blogging. Amazingly, all I spent was $50. Even better... $30 of that was parking at the airport. Speaking of which, the plane ride back was bumpy as hell. I don't even think they ever turned off the seat belt light! And that was after having to change gates twice!

Anyways, I had a good trip up there. It's a company I would like to work at, but we'll see. Before I left, the boss kinda sounded like he wants to hire me, but he needs to decide where I would work. So that's good news. I could be working in the over-secured DC, or I could be working in the "chocolate city" of New Orleans. Right now, I'm sending the boss a thank-you note for inviting me up.

(Yes, I did say "chocolate city". According to the mayor of New Orleans, God WANTS IT THAT WAY! Fuck C. Ray Nagin. Reverse racism at its finest, folks! I think we should have a "neopolitan city" where everyone is welcome... and we should rid ourselves of the "welfare kings & queens". If you want to live here, you gotta work... don't expect us to do it all for you.)

But enough of politics. This isn't a political blog. However, I did feel that this needed to be said.

For the time being, I've disabled comments. Not because of this, though. I was getting bombarded by comment spam-bots, so I gotta add a little security image crap. When you see that, comments will be available again.

Just before I wrote this, I found out Citi was offering American Express versions of their credit cards. So I called, and I was able to get my Citi Dividend converted to an AMEX. I should get it soon.

Right now, I have to go take some medicine (my throat is sore as hell) and finish the thank-you note. I want to get it out tomorrow.

Goin' To DC Next Week

You know that I've been moaning and groaning about not being able to get a job for a few months now. However, it looks like my luck has finally turned the corner.

And I mean it this time.

Next Monday through Wednesday, I will be in Washington, DC to interview with a company. It's an IT consulting firm that provides services to many departments of our government. That must mean there's good money to be made. If (or should I say when?) I get the job, I'll mention the company here. I don't want to jinx anything.

However, I really do think my luck has turned the corner. They've already bought me plane tickets and a hotel room to stay in. It must be a good thing if I don't have to pay my own way. All of the other trips I've made, I had to pay my way. Of course, they weren't real long trips either.

If I got this job, I'd be moving up to DC. Of course, they did mention there are possible opportunities for me to move back to New Orleans in the future. I was looking at apartment prices in the DC area, and the lowest I saw for a 1-bedroom was $799. Of course, DC pays higher than New Orleans as well. Also, I'd actually like to see snow for once.

Anyway. I'll write again after the trip. I bet it's gonna be a good one. It seems like my job search is nearing the end. Sweet! Looking for work is a lot of work.
