Nearly 1 Year At My Job - Time To Make Some Bank?
Next Thursday (August 9), I will have completed 1 year at work. However, I have my performance review on Friday. Obviously, one of the topics that will be discussed is a raise. This weekend, I will have a much clearer picture of my future. To quote The Clash, "should I stay or should I go"?
To all y'all who remember this poll, I asked how long I would be employed. In one of the highest-participated polls at TheBigTymer.Com, 54% of you said I wouldn't last a year. Well, we still have a little over a week, but I feel confident to tell you 54% to suck my balls.
I hope to have some ammunition to get the raise I'm seeking. When I got back from my trip, I found out we had an unrecoverable SQL Server crash. Luckily, a lot of things were backed up, but it was still a pain in the ass to get everything back up and running. At least it allowed me to tune some things up and make them more efficient. If that ain't worth the raise I'm seeking, than I don't know what will, short of leaving.
This weekend, I'm taking a long weekend. I had some time off left I had to burn up before next Thursday, so I'll take time to vist family and clear my head.
Right now, I'm craving a missionary-style burrito. I think I'll hit up Izzo's during this trip.
Well, I'll know my future this weekend. And you will too. Stay tuned.

Birthdays, Business Trips, And Other Good Stuff
So I had my birthday last week. To be honest, on the actual day of the birthday, it kinda sucked. Didn't feel like a whole hell of a lot of people remembered it.
At work, they had a birthday celebration for me the day after. It was nice; however, the lil' pessimist in me says they had actually forgotten at first and were trying to make up for it. Only a couple of people had remembered at first, one of which was my boss.
That weekend, I headed to Opelousas to visit the family and celebrate. We went to Prejean's for dinner; pretty decent food.
Last Monday, I headed to Atlanta to attend a seminar for work. It seems when you leave New Orleans and go somewhere else, you realize how crappy New Orleans has become. I hated paying $8.50 for a chili dog and Coke Zero at the New Orleans airport, but they have very little food choices there. At least I was able to expense it!
Speaking of the seminar, I learned a lot. I hope to especially use it in the next couple of months. I get back to work, and our database crashed, so we've been rebuilding it. What fun.
I leave you all with this thought: I had the chance to eat at the Varsity while in Atlanta. I wanted to see what the hype was about. It's most likely not the food.

The BigTymer's New Crib
Hey y'all,
I just got in my new crib a week ago. So far, not too much wrong with it, except for two things:
(1) The air conditioner ain't that efficient.
(2) I don't have line-of-sight for a satellite.
They came and corrected (1) so it runs a little more efficient. However, it's still not enough! However, the only way to correct (2) is to chop a bunch of trees down. I bit the bullet and ordered Charter.
I also just bought a washer/dryer and had it installed yesterday. I did the first loads in it today, and it ran pretty flawless. Much better than going to the laundromat and fishing for quarters. Plus, my clothes are much cleaner.
One note about the move: that day, I was driving some crap over to the apartment. I'm passing cars in the left lane, and some douchebag on his cell phone is drifting over. I blow the horn to get his attention, and he quickly turns back to the right. However, he's lost all control, and shoots BACK across I-12 into the neutral ground. The fucker is lucky that he didn't dig in and flip, or that he didn't cross all the way over into the eastbound lanes. It was also a good thing I put the hammer down when he started coming back across, or I'd be in a hospital bed right now. I knew playing video games would pay off one day!
The thing I noticed about Mandeville is that things are more expensive over here. The rent I have is real cheap for the area, which says something. Also, I joined a gym that's comparable to the one I went to in Slidell... it costs almost 58% more a month! Yet, getting fit is priceless. As long as I find the deals, I should manage to get by.
Wednesday is my birthday. Maybe I'll get some cash. McAlister's Deli sent me $5 gift certificate, and Buffalo Wild Wings sent me a coupon for a free dessert. I heard that Taco Bell gives you a free combo on your birthday... might try that out.
Anyway, gotta get back to cleaning my new crib up.
