I Love Publix

I finally got my tax refund back from Louisiana. As it turns out, my claim for the Citizens Insurance credit was disallowed. The form to fill it out was kinda misleading, and I'd have had to send in documentation about it anyway. Not worth the trouble for $4. Another reason I'm glad I'm not living in Louisiana anymore.

The Wal-Mart on Charlotte Pike also pissed me off a little bit. I had a price match from Kroger on some ice cream. Needless to say, the bitch at the register wouldn't allow it because you have to use a loyalty card at Kroger to get that discount. Never mind the fact I've been able to price match Kroger before, as well as Winn-Dixie and Sav-A-Center back in the Louisiana days. Needless to say, the joke was on her. I walked out without making a purchase, leaving her to put a bunch of frozen food back. I went to Publix and made my purchases there. Doing a comparison of products, their prices aren't much higher than Wal-Mart, and the product quality and service is loads better. Publix always treats me well, so I'm happy to pay a little bit more with them.

Speaking of groceries, Publix had a great sale on chicken this weekend. Needless to say, I picked up some to make some awesome baked buffalo legs. I also used some of the extra meat to throw in a fried rice. It tasted great, but it had the consistency of Chinese jambalaya. Well, at least it tasted better than it looked.

Anyway, I'm thinking of making some minor cosmetic changes to the site. I also want to get the Old School 504 section up and running soon. I'm thinking of something "special".

Holy Crap, I Can Cook!

This entry is mostly about food, so go grab a snack. We'll wait. You'll be hungry after reading this anyway.

In the last month, I've found out that I'm actually a decent cook. It's not anything fancy like Emeril; it's more utilitarian like Alton Brown.

A couple of weekends ago, I found a recipe for baked buffalo wings. It's healthier than frying them up, and I'd probably burn the apartment down if I did. Anyway, I tried the recipe with drumsticks (MORE MEAT), hot sauce, and some Smart Balance. Damned if it ain't good! I was pleasantly surprised how well boilin'-'n-broilin' stacks up with deep frying.

I also recently bought a sandwich maker. It seems that making your sandwiches into hot pockets makes them taste better. I guess a sandwich of roast beef, onions, lettuce, and brown mustard on wheat also helps. It makes a tasty lunch.

I don't even need to do the cooking myself to make a tasty dinner. Yesterday, I went down to Franklin to do some bowling at Franklin Lanes (for those who care, I rolled an 86, 93, and 93) and some shopping in Cool Springs. I stopped at Genghis Grill for dinner because I was craving Mongolian BBQ. The trick is to fill the bowl as highly as possible. My grill consisted of beef, broccoli, carrots, green onions, water chestnuts, red potatoes, and udon noodles seasoned with spicy salt, red pepper flakes, and chili garlic sauce. Hot and tasty.

Since I last wrote, the weather has warmed up. However, it seems we might get some flurries tonight. Weird. Also, I have the moblog back up and running, so check it out. I also have a new poll up, since the previous one is kinda outdated.

Now I want a snack.
