1 Year At HealthSpring
I should have written this yesterday. As of yesterday, I made it through one of year of work, and I don't feel like leaving. That's an accomplishment in itself! Well, I don't feel like leaving for the foreseeable future, and my job feels recession-proof. Now, my 401(k) is currently a .401(j), but it should rebound.
No promotions or raises to speak of, but maybe around the new year. We'll see.
Also, I had to move to a new cube a week ago, and I'll have to move again in a couple of weeks. They're doing some renovations on the building and moving people around. I think that eventually, we're gonna need a bigger building. And that's a good thing.
Maybe gas prices dropping can help. I filled up half a tank about 3 weeks ago, and I paid $3.62/gallon. I put in a full tank 2 weeks ago at $2.99/gallon. I'm driving home today, and I nearly crashed when I saw the Kroger with gas for $1.99/gallon. All the other stations on the corner (a BP and an Exxon), as well as the Shell down the street, were 50 cents higher. I sense a price war!
Last weekend, I actually went through the Alzheimer's Walk that I've been trying to collect donations for. The walk was pretty short, as I finished it in about 20 minutes. That's the least amount of effort I've put in for volunteer PTO, but I'll take it.
Not much going on, but Thanksgiving is coming up. I'll be heading down to Georgia, as per usual. At least the trip is a lot shorter than it used to be. And I have a couple of weeks saved up for Christmas.
Be back later.

Yellowjackets Suck (And I Don't Mean Georgia Tech)
This past weekend, I went up to a family reunion in east Tennessee. It was on the same mountain as the one back in May, but not the same road. I got lost going up the mountain, and couldn't call anyone for help because I had no cell signal. When I went back down the mountain, a cousin of mine on a 4-wheeler found me and gave me an escort to the site.
The food was great, and the camaraderie was great, but the yellowjackets weren't. The little fuckers were everywhere, especially around the food. I hate stinging insects, especially yellowjackets and hornets, because they don't give a crap if you're not bothering them. Somehow, I made it through the whole day without getting stung.
I haven't had much sleep since Monday night. I stayed up to watch the Saints-Vikings game. Every night since, I've been wondering how we gave Minnesota that one. At least you can't fault the Saints for being charitable, I guess.
It's been fun watching the stock market go down, down, down. OK, I lied... my 401(k) and Roth are going down with it. At least I'm not planning on retiring for 40 years, so I have some time. And gas prices go down with them as well.
Not much going on in the immediate future, but the Alzheimer's Walk is coming up in a couple of weeks. I'm posting a link if you want to go donate something. Look in the yellow bar above.
