I Hate Rain... But Thank God For Insurance
So far, everything's been going swell at work. It's not really hard work at all; it's not busywork like I sometimes got at school. I always hated busywork. At least right now, it seems there's a good bit of downtime; out of the 8-hour day, I work less than 3, and surf the web the rest of the time. And I get paid for it.
Last Friday, the VP of our department took my supervisor and I to lunch. We did go to a chain (Macaroni Grill), but the food was great. I had a "create your own" pasta deal. I had penne, onions, and garlic cloves smothered in Bolognese (meat) sauce and topped with meatballs. They also have a great garlic bread with olive oil dip. Needless to say, I needed a mint afterwards.
They also have this deal where they put up profiles of the new employees on the company intranet. Right now, it's me who is up there. Now everybody knows who I be.
Of course, there is some bad news. The Saturn is kaput. No, I didn't wreck it. But it's dead, nonetheless.
Last Friday, I was coming home from work. There were some nasty storms out, and I got caught in a flash flood a couple of streets from home. The water was 7-8" deep, and it stalled out the car. The mechanic diagnosed hydrolock, i.e. the watery kiss of death. It would cost about $7,000 to replace the engine, and we paid around $11,000 for the car. Needless to say, the insurance people will probably total it. That means I have to put the insurance money, as well as some more money, on another car. I'm thinking a Ford this time.
It's a good thing I get paid on Thursday. And it'll be a full paycheck this time! Also, I can't wait for Labor Day. Finally, I have an excuse to celebrate it.
