I Got 894'd!
Back in March, I was on the way to work. I passed a police car who was holding up the left lane. I guess he was pissed that he got passed by a Saturn, as he threw on the lights and pulled me over. He gave me a ticket for going 80 in a 70; yet, I swore my speedometer said I was going 76 at the time. But I digress.
Today was my court date, after successfully having it put off three months. At 8:30, they had us say whether we wanted to plead guilty or go to trial. The officer was there, so I chose to plead. He actually left after that, so I probably should have gone to trial. However, he probably would have stayed had I chose trial.
Therefore, I was able to plead guilty under good ol' Article 894. You pay the fine, and as long as you're a good boy for a while, they drop the ticket from your record, like it never happened. It's worth it if you need it. And I don't need the insurance going up.
Because of that, I only had to take half a day away from work, instead of the full day I had planned. That's good, as I can use the other half to go to Baton Rouge for a couple of interviews. It seems it'll be easier to get a job since I already have one; it's definitely harder if you don't. Plus, I need to ration what little time off I have for the rest of the year.
Well, my wallet's a little lighter now, but I bet it'll be much fuller later.
