Fun With Blog Rebuttals
As I wrote last time, we recently had the company Christmas party. It was a snazzy affair at the downtown Hilton, and I had a great time. The food was great, if not a little fancy and a little small. But hey, it was a free dinner. We also had a casino night and silent auction. Needless to say, I won at neither, but it was still fun.
The only bad part of the whole night was trying to get home. For those who don't know downtown Nashville, the Hilton is right next to the Sommet Center, and the party ended at the same time as the Stevie Wonder concert. I had completely forgotten about the Stevie Wonder concert. Needless to say, traffic was a headache, but a small price to pay.
I think the only thing I'm still not used to is white (snow) and pink (sleet/freezing rain) on the weather radar.

If you noticed a couple of posts down, I removed the MySpace link. Well, it seems my "replacement" found out about my website and completely got rid of the blog post I was referencing.
I've mentioned before that I never told ANYBODY at PamLab about this site. Needless to say, there are quite a few "God Warriors" there who would raise hell at the sight of a boobie... DEAR GOD, A TOPLESS WOMAN, THE END OF THE WORLD IS NIGH! A few people did find it, but they're the ones I like... the ones with open minds.
Needless to say, she replaced it with an attack on my character and a defense of PamLab. I guess she didn't realize that it wasn't an attack on her, per se, but rather an attack on the beancounters at PamLab. I copy-and-paste some of her points, and offer my rebuttals:
* "So easy, apparently, a cavman did do it!" - So a caveman would have a good bit of knowledge about SQL Server? Thanks to me, all you have to do is click a couple of buttons. Then, you can take your paycheck, and go buy some roast duck with mango salsa.
* "I have done so well, they are talking major raise" - So they'll take you to $27K instead of $26K? Let me know when you get to $30K. But they won't offer you that unless you have advanced knowledge of SQL Server. And a raise of any sort won't be offered to you until a year of service.
In fact, I was offered a "major" raise. Percentage-wise, it was a good raise... however, compared to comparable salaries in the area, I was still way below what I should be getting. Therefore, I found a company who WOULD pay fair. I have no regrets.
* "it is nice to not have to worry about money and to go back to work strictly for fun" - Good for you that you don't have to worry about money. However, I had to pay rent (rip-off), food, utilities (CLECO is definitely a rip-off)... needless to say, someone in my position should at least be able to save a little.
In fact, one person there said I shouldn't complain about my pay because there are single mothers making less than I do, and they don't complain. A) Were those single mothers working in a position like mine? B) Were they afraid to complain for fear of being fired? Believe me, I know what those single mothers are getting paid, and it's a damn shame, considering what they have to do.
* "The people are incredibly nice" - I will give you that there are some good people there, like my old boss & supervisor... but get back to me after you've spent a bit of time dealing with Jim Currie and Brien Debari.
* "I feel sad for the poor ogre that quit this job before me...maybe I will send him some money for Christmas, so he can buy some furniture for his Nash-Vegas apartment ;-)" - Hon, don't feel sad for me. I wish you had written this before Halloween, so I could have bought a Shrek costume and sent you a pic of me wearing it. I'm loving life, making good bank, working with some great people for a great company... who can ask for anything better? However, if you want, you can still buy me furniture. I'm thinking about buying a condo when my lease expires. Green is a good color choice.

Since I've gotten that out of my system, time to finish the laundry. Saints play tomorrow night, and I hope they win. And how about them LSU Tigers playing for the national championship?
