The BigTymer's Blog Entry

My First Week As A College Graduate

Finally, I've been able to have some rest and relaxation! It's been great not having to worry about scheduling, fees, and textbooks. However, that doesn't mean everything's been stress-free.

The big thing on my mind is trying to find a job. I've been sending out resumes, and I'm going to send out more resumes. I'm hoping something will come up, but it's probably not going to happen immediately.

On Thursday, I had a meeting in Kenner with a company called TEKSystems. They're an IT-staffing company that helps other companies recruit for potential positions. The recruiter I met with was a very nice person, and she liked TheBigTymer.Com, which is a plus. I mention that because the position we were talking about was a Web Designer/Developer position with a company in Covington. However, she gave me some resume tips, which included not using this site as part of my portfolio (supposedly, some people could be offended by the content). That's fine, I have other sites and great references.

The meeting was a little shorter than I planned, so I took the scenic route home. That's right, Highway 90 all the way back from New Orleans to Slidell. I wanted to see the Buddhist temples in eastern New Orleans (where there's a huge Vietnamese population) and the fishing camps the rest of the way to Slidell. I hadn't crossed the Rigolets bridge in years, but DAMN, that bridge is narrow. It's not very comforting, especially when an 18-wheeler passes you going the other way. I don't think I'll take that route again.

My graduation gifts? They currently total about $750. Mom and Pop haven't given anything yet, but they've made a huge promise. Therefore, graduating college is more profitable than graduating high school.

My plans right now: send out more resumes before I have jaw surgery on June 8. I have to work on that. Next time, I'll have graduation pictures up, as well as a story about my college life.
