I'm Back After That Bitch Katrina.
I just made it back home a few hours ago after evacuating from Katrina. We spent time with family in the Atlanta area. I think we spent about a week and a half there? I lost track of the time.
We were originally gonna stay with my sister in Natchitoches, but the house she shares with 2 other guys would not comfortably fit all of us. We left there Sunday night to drive all through the night into Atlanta. We got there just in time to watch all the weather idiots stand out in hurricane conditions for ratings.
We left this morning and got home around 5 PM. We stopped in Birmingham to pick up some 12-packs of Cheerwine (it's like Dr. Pepper Red Fusion, but with more bite; it's also so damn hard to find!), and we also stopped in Picayune to top off the gas tank.
We were lucky to get away with minimal damage. All of the damage to our house (minus the few shingles the wind blew off the roof) was caused by a fallen pine tree. It damaged some of the roof awning by the front door and the windshield on my dad's old piece-of-shit truck. The tree actually landed on the truck, and that's all the damage it caused. Amazing, ain't it?
We are definitely lucky, compared to the people in south Slidell, New Orleans, Metairie, Chalmette, Biloxi, Gulfport, and various points between. My prediction of New Orleans becoming a "disease-infested fishbowl" came true, unfortunately. I know they'll rebuild.
We should all donate money. Once I can cash some checks at the bank, I'm donating to the Red Cross. Also, pray for everyone who needs it.
